At KarmaKrew, we are all about enhancing your DayZ experience with unique features that expand on the original gameplay. That is why we have developed a custom flagpole system that goes beyond the vanilla version. Say goodbye to complicated storage limits—our flagpole allows you to upgrade your base and storage as you level up. And yes, in this case, size really does matter. 😉
The start of your base, your flagpole
Before you can start placing walls, gates, and storage, you will need a flagpole. Because we changed our recipe from the vanilla one, I will explain how to do it. We still want people to have easy access to base building; therefore, we made crafting a flagpole kit easily accessible for players! Take a look below:
Level 1 Flagpole
Ingredients:
- Sharpened stick
- Rag
Combine a rag with a sharpened stick to craft a flagpole kit. Place the flagpole kit down, and there you go—your very own base with a level 1 flagpole!
With your Level 1 flagpole in place, you’ve unlocked basebuilding. You can now create:
- Walls
- Gates
- Window barricades
- Wooden workbench
- Gun rack
- Gun wall
- Gear stand
You can also place items like:
- A Fireplace
- A Fridge
- A Tent
- A Barrel
Additionally, you can invite and manage group members, which we will cover later in this guide (or click here to jump directly to that section). Note: If you are playing on our servers, make sure to read the base rules for storage to avoid confusion.
Upgrading: Level 2 Flagpole
To expand your base and upgrade your storage, you will need to craft the Level 2 flagpole. Here is what you will need:
Ingredients:
- 1 Wooden log
- 1 Rope
- 1 Sledgehammer
Attach the wooden log and rope to the Level 1 flagpole. Then, use the sledgehammer on the flagpole to upgrade it.
Congratulations! Your flagpole is now upgraded to Level 2, unlocking the following upgrades:
- Crates can now be upgraded to Level 2.
- Gunrack can now be upgraded to Level 2.
- Wooden table (workbench) can now be upgraded to Level 2 (maximum).
- Gunwall can now be upgraded to Level 2 (maximum).
- Gearstand can now be upgraded to Level 2 (maximum).
Upgrading: Level 3 Flagpole
Ready to take your base to its final form? To upgrade to the Level 3 flagpole, you will need the following:
Ingredients:
- 6 wooden logs
- 60 nails
- 16 large stones
- A shovel
Attach all the ingredients to the Level 2 flagpole, and then use the shovel to upgrade it to Level 3.
With the Level 3 flagpole, you’ve unlocked the following:
- Crates can be upgraded to Level 3 and Level 4 (max)
- Gunrack can be upgraded to Level 3 (max)
Your flagpole is now at its maximum level, and your base can be fully upgraded. Raise your flag high above your base to proudly show your dominance!
How to invite friends
A base without friends is like a beer without alcohol, its nice but just doesn’t hit the spot on a friday evening. So lets invite some people! After creating a Level 1 flagpole, you can start inviting friends to join your group. Here’s how:
Group owner
-
- Approach the flagpole, aim at it, and scroll until you see the “Invite New Survivor” option.
- Press [F] (default) to open up the flagpole so another player can join.
Group Member
-
- If the flagpole is open for invites, the group member can approach the flagpole and press [F] to join the territory group.
- Once in a group, both members can build and place base items.
Managing the group
It’s rather easy to manage the group:
As the group owner:
- Go to the flagpole and press [F] (default) when you see the “Group Overview” option.
- Alternatively, press [P] (default) anywhere on the map to open the small menu.
As a group member:
- Press [P] anywhere on the map to access the group menu.
In the group menu, you can:
- Click the “X” to leave the group (or as the group owner, kick someone).
- As the group owner, promote someone to group owner by clicking the up arrow next to their name.
Note: No player names, markers, or messaging are displayed in-game. This group system is only for basebuilding, maintaining the vanilla DayZ style.

Why our custom system enhances gameplay
So, why did we create this custom flagpole system? Let me explain its key benefits:
Base Storage
Over the years, we’ve encountered numerous issues with players breaking storage rules. With this custom flagpole, crafting recipes and placing down storage after the limit has been reached are automatically disabled, ensuring fair play for everyone.
Griefing and Boosting
DayZ is an open-world game with endless possibilities, but excessive griefing isn’t one we encourage. Our system disables dismantling within a territory unless you’re part of the group, and prevents unauthorized building, making cheesy watchtower raids impossible!
Summary and conclusion
There you have it! The KarmaKrew custom flagpole system is not only easy to use but also helps ensure fair play for everyone. We love how it expands on the vanilla DayZ experience while maintaining its core essence. The system has been custom made from scratch by our highly skilled developer Maroonchy.
