DayZ: How to get in the Sakhal bunker (Location, glow plug, keys and briefcase).

Table of Contents

Finding the best loot on Sakhal is quite the adventure. It’s not difficult, but you just need to know the steps. In this guide, I will tell you all there is to know about the mission. So, let’s go!

NOTE: This guide is written for the unchanged setup from Vanilla DayZ. If you play any community server, I can not guarantee that they haven’t changed anything from here. KarmaKrew uses the vanilla mission with added scientist camp also spawning dynamically sown south on the coasts.
However, if any server has the vanilla setup (or on karmakrew), you can use this guide! Here we go!

To get started on a mission towards the Sakhal bunker, there are three key parts that play a role in this adventure:

  • A Glow Plug
  • The bunker’s generator
  • The bunker

Besides that, you also need a little bit of gas to fill up the generator’s fuel tank in order for it to run. So, do not forget this important piece!

You can use the table of contents from this guide to quickly navigate to the part that you need. Or, if you are starting fresh, let me guide you all the way through!

The glow plug

The glow plug is a new item that was added with the introduction of the Military humvee. On Sakhal you are going to need a Glow plug to activate the generators that power the bunker’s doors.

The glow plug for the DayZ Sakhal bunker generators.
The glow plug is like a spark plug. It will spark the generator in the bunker.

How to get the glow plug

Maybe you think, “Oh, let me find the Humvee and take that glow plug,” but too bad. The glow plug can’t be found on military Humvees because they do not spawn on Sakhal. In order to find the glow plug, you will need to find something called ‘The Frozen Scientist.’ This is a dynamic event that spawns a dead scientist with a briefcase. In this briefcase, you will find the glow plug alongside other survival items.

The Scientist Keys spawn locations

This newly introduced dynamic event (the Sakhal briefcase), in patch 1.26, can only be opened with the newly introduced ‘Scientist Briefcase Keys.’ These keys are not too hard to find; they are actually in only two spots. They are in the scientist camps at the side of the volcano. The iZurvive coordinates for this are:

  • Southeast of the volcano: 10980.00 / 11533.47
  • West side of the volcano: 9675.00 / 12135.00

The Briefcase spawn locations

On vanilla Sakhal these Scientists spawn around the base of the volcano next to a road. Well it doesn’t look like a road because it is covered in snow, but you can follow the road by looking at the trail of poles.

Alternatively if you want to use the izurvive coordinates, you can find the scientist spawns in vanilla DayZ around these 2 locations:

  • Location 1: 9465.00 / 12089.47
  • Location 2: 10402.50 / 11384.02

You are going to be looking for the scientist, who will look like a dead NBC zombie in white clothing, lying on the ground. The zombie should have a briefcase next to it. If it does not have the briefcase, chances are someone else beat you to it. But if you are the first… use the key on the briefcase to unlock it, revealing the contents inside, and there should also be your glow plug.

Now, travel to the bunker generator room next!

The bunker’s generator

So, you thought the mission was over? Well, it wouldn’t be DayZ if there wasn’t more to it. In order to open the bunker doors, you have to enable the generator using the glow plug and some fuel.

Where is the location of the Sakhal bunker generator?

The location of the Sakhal bunker generator is not hard to find. You’ll have to cross the land bridge on foot, or use a boat, and traverse the southern military peninsula.

There, at this military location in the southwest, is a generator workstation building that looks like the following:

In here there is a generator with switches that control the bunker doors. You can find this generator’s location using the map, your own navigational skills, or these coordinates and Izurvive: 3005.63 / 5850.07.

Add the glow plug and the fuel, and start the generator. You can then use the different switches to control different bunker doors. They are labeled A1, A2, A3, and A4.

Be aware that you can only open one door at a time. If you turn on multiple switches at the same time, you will short the circuit. If this happens, you’ll have to wait and turn it back on again.

What this means is, in order to get into all the rooms efficiently, you’ll need a second person who can open the different bunker doors while staying at the generator’s switch panel.

Of course, you can do it yourself, but that will require some traveling back and forth between the bunker and the generator switches.

The bunker doors

The bunker doors, or better known as The Sakhal Bunker, is the place where you can actually find the loot. The bunker is split up in four rooms which require operating the generator switches to open.

Where are the bunker doors

The Sakhal Bunker is located on the military peninsula on the southern side of the map. In the southwest part of this peninsula, not far from the generator room, you can find the bunker doors.

On the outside of the bunker facility, there are two entrances: the northern entrance and a south entrance that is attached to a building. Both sides have two doors that simulate an airlock. You can open the outer two doors by hand to enter the bunker facility.

Inside, you will find another four vault doors labeled A1, A2, A3, and A4, which correspond to the numbers on the generator switches.

If you are done looting one vault, you can (if you are with friends) ask them to close the door and open a new one. If you are a solo player, you will have to run back to the generator switches, close the door you were in, and open the new one all by yourself!

Conclusion

That’s all there is to it. At this point, you should be king of the island with all the loot you will ever need. The mission will take some time and looting, and it’s genuinely a lot of fun. Because you have to travel inland from spawn and then head to two separate locations on the military peninsula, it makes for a dangerous but exciting adventure! I hope you got your loot with the help of this guide!
