Bohemia Interactive has officially announced DayZ 2, ending the years of speculation about a true sequel to one of the most influential survival games ever made.
Here’s everything that’s been confirmed so far and what it means for the survivors who’ve called Chernarus home for over a decade.
What is DayZ 2?
DayZ 2 is the first full sequel to the survival game that began as an Arma 2 mod in 2012 and grew into a standalone phenomenon. Where the original DayZ has been expanded over the years through maps like Livonia, Sakhal, and the upcoming Nasdara Province (Badlands), DayZ 2 will be a successor likely built from an established Enfusion platform also used for ArmA 4.
DayZ 2 Announcement
The announcement was made at this year’s DayZ Unite event, where DayZ content creators gathered in Prague for a series of events hosted by Bohemia.
The creators were taken for a ride in a V3S military truck, which led them to a banner with a large, DayZ-stylized “2” with new Project Lead David Rektorys standing next to it.
“That was pretty emotional…because we were not expecting it at all.” – HollyRex via live stream from the event.
After more than a decade of “will they, won’t they,” seeing the number on a banner, rather than hearing another round of speculation, made it real for the people who’ve helped build the game’s community.
For now, the reveal is exactly that: a reveal. Bohemia kept the details under wraps, with no release window, platforms, or setting confirmed yet. What we do know is that DayZ 2 is considered a second flagship IP for Bohemia Interactive and that the goal is to create a true and worthy sequel to the original, whilst maintaining DayZ’s unique identity. We’ll post updates as soon as more information becomes available in the future.

The most important thing to know: the original DayZ isn’t going anywhere. It will still have a dedicated team, continuing to develop the game during DayZ 2’s development cycle. According to DayZ’s Project Lead Tomáš Přibyl (also known as Thales), there will be a big focus on bringing closer feature parity between the console and PC versions of DayZ. Optimization will also be a priority, with more content also in the pipeline past the Badlands DLC release.
A freshly announced sequel doesn’t change anything about the game you’re playing today, including everything we’ve got coming on the KarmaKrew servers, and the official Badlands / Nasdara DLC will still be released for DayZ later this year.
We’ll be following DayZ 2 every step of the way.
